Winter Session

Due to the Virginia Governor’s recent COVID safety mandate, winter session will be limited to quartets only. We encourage you to register today. We are anticipating that spots will fill up quickly.

This winter program will include weekly 2-hour in-person group rehearsals as well as an online independent practice component that will include recording and collaboration using BandLab app.

Playing in such small ensembles allows our young musicians to bring their art to a new level, further developing the expertise and confidence to play as soloists. In addition, our Sinfonietta allows our entire complement of musicians to perform together.

All participants must have 3 years of experience to participate. Students are placed in groups based on their individual skill level, as determined in an informal preliminary audition. Each applicant should schedule an audition. Dates and times are available upon request.

Socially distanced in-person quartets will meet for rehearsals. All COVID safety precautions will be put in place for all participating groups and instructors. Only HRCP staff and students will be allowed to enter the church. We will require all students to wear masks and parents will be required to perform health checks before dropping off their musicians. We will be sanitizing in between each group.

More detailed information about safety and attendance will be sent to registered students.

Step 1: Apply

All students interested in the Winter session must complete an application form.

Step 2: Audition

All new students must audition prior to being accepted into HRCP. There is a non-refundable $25 audition fee for all auditions. We will be emailing all applicants available audition slots. If you have questions, please reach out to Jorge Aguirre. Students that have participated in a HRCP program within a year do not have to audition. 

What to prepare:

  • Prepared piece that shows skill level
  • Scales (musician’s choice)
  • Demonstrate the ability to sight read music

What to bring:

  • $25 audition fee (Make checks payable to  Hampton Roads Chamber Players) and printed copy of your registration form confirmation (this should have been emailed to you immediately following online application).

Step 3: Acceptance

HRCP will notify all students that have been accepted into the Fall 2019 program by email or phone call.

  • An email will be mailed with additional registration information as well as options for payment
  • Once registration is completed, you will receive a welcome email before the start of the session/camp
